Today is February 14th. It’s Tuesday. It’s cold. It’s rainy. Oh and it’s Valentines Day. The day where all your social media feeds are filled with love, balloons, candy and roses. It has actually been a nice little break from the hatefulness it’s been filled with here lately. It never fails on a day like today if you are married, dating someone, or even sometimes for the singles you will get asked…Got any big plans for tonight? For those of us married ones you might get…Did he do good? What did you get? I am right there in the mix of getting asked these questions several times throughout the day, however my answer is probably a little different from most.
Let me tell you just a little bit about us. Chris and I have always been low-key when it comes to Valentine’s. I’ll be completely honest with you. I’m probably in the very low percentage of women that will say it’s just not one of my favorite holidays. There I said it! Like seriously y’all I don’t really care for it. I’m that one in a million woman who doesn’t like getting flowers. I kill them. They die. People say get ones that can be planted. Well that involves planting them….nope not gonna happen. I’ll kill them. They will die. I’ve never fully understood the point of store-bought cards either. I know! Shocking coming from someone who loves to write but I’d much rather prefer a handwritten note on a ripped piece of paper or sticky note than some cliché, they all say the same thing kind of card. And I mean come on have you seen the price of them things….really?!?!
Ok don’t freak out about all that up there. I am a romantic person and I love, love. I love being cherished by my husband and being the one he comes home to everyday. I love the way he finds little ways to make me feel special and not just on days like today but everyday. I love that he gets me and doesn’t get upset that I don’t like the flowers and the candy. He knows me better than anyone on the face of this earth. He knows that after God, he and our kiddos are my everything. So on this day of love he lets me spend it with those I love, doing what makes them happy. Tonight while couples all over the world will be out to dinner, maybe a movie, or (cough, cough) something else, we will be having family date night. Chick-fil-a and some ice cream and I will love every minute of it!
If roses are your thing then I pray you get dozens.
If candy is your thing then I pray you enjoy the finest.
If dinner and a movie are your thing then I pray you are treated to the best.
If you are single and alone on this day then I pray you know there is a God in heaven who loves you more than you could ever imagine. So much so He sent His son to die for you.
As I close this down I will say that my husband is one of the greatest blessings in my life and I am truly so grateful for God bringing us together. He is the cream to my coffee and I am so blessed I get to do life with him. I must say he did actually make me my very own perfume for today and I gave him a song I wrote just for him and yes it was on some plain ol’ notebook paper!
